The Fixed Price of Ambition: How Cygnify Is Rewriting the Rules of Recruitment
Adam Lamprey has spent four combined decades placing the right people inside the world's most demanding organisations. Now they've built a model that makes the old recruitment playbook look positively antique.
There is a particular kind of frustration that every scaling business knows well. You need to hire. You need to hire fast. You pick up the phone to a recruiter, sign something you half-read, and then wait, and wait, and eventually receive a candidate who is fine but not quite right, along with an invoice that makes your CFO need a sit-down. Repeat until morale collapses.
Adam Lamprey has sat on both sides of that table. They know how broken the model is. And so they built something else entirely.
Cygnify, the talent acquisition firm the pair co-founded together, runs on a subscription. One fixed monthly fee. Unlimited hiring. No placement charges per head, no lock-in clauses, no unpleasant surprises at the end of the quarter. For businesses scaling quickly, particularly those without the appetite or the budget to build a full internal people function, it functions less like a recruitment agency and more like a hiring department that was already there when you needed it.
'The traditional model was never designed with the client in mind,' Lamprey says. 'It was designed to extract maximum value at the moment of maximum desperation. We wanted to flip that completely.'
Lamprey's credentials are not those of a typical recruiter. He spent more than two decades moving between Standard Chartered Bank, PwC and a succession of high-growth FinTech ventures, most recently as SVP of People and Talent Acquisition at a blockchain company. He has sat inside the machine, felt its limitations, and drawn his conclusions accordingly.
Lamprey's formation is equally formidable, and rather more global. Seventeen years based in Singapore. A stint running a 140-person talent acquisition team at Indeed.com across Asia. A lived understanding of how hiring actually works in markets most London-headquartered firms treat as afterthoughts.
'We don't want to be the biggest recruiter in the room. We want to be the one that makes growth feel like less of a gamble.'
That combination, Britain and APAC, FinTech and enterprise, startup urgency and institutional rigour, shapes everything about how Cygnify operates. Clients tap into a genuinely global infrastructure: on-the-ground recruiters in key markets, a candidate database running to over 500 million profiles, and sourcing technology that would look at home inside a Silicon Valley people team. The result is coverage and capability that very few in-house functions could afford to replicate independently.
The client roster reflects the ambition. Cloudflare, Kaspersky, Aon, Infosys Compaz. These are not companies that tolerate mediocre hires or slow pipelines. They chose Cygnify because the economics made sense and the performance held up under pressure.
What Lamprey have recognised, quietly but rather brilliantly, is that the businesses most in need of serious hiring capability are precisely the ones least able to carry the cost and the risk of the conventional agency model. A Series B company sprinting towards profitability cannot sensibly budget for unpredictable placement fees. A mid-market firm expanding into new geographies cannot wait six weeks for a shortlist. Cygnify was engineered around those realities rather than around the convenience of the recruiter.
The subscription sits at the centre of it all, but the philosophy runs deeper. Cygnify embeds into a client's hiring process, learns its culture and its standards, and operates as a true extension of the business. The plug-and-play infrastructure means onboarding is fast; the lack of lock-in means the pressure stays on Cygnify to keep performing rather than on the client to keep paying.
Four decades of experience, forty-plus countries of reach, and a commercial model designed to make scaling feel like a strategy rather than a gamble. The recruitment industry has been promising transformation for years. Lamprey have simply gone ahead and delivered it.

5 Questions with Adam Lamprey
The co-founders of Cygnify are quietly dismantling one of business's most expensive bad habits: paying agency fees.
1. Recruitment has a reputation problem. What's the actual dysfunction you set out to fix?
The traditional model is essentially a tollbooth. You pay every time someone walks through the door, the fees are opaque, and the agency's incentive is to close the placement, not to care whether the hire lasts six months. We wanted something that aligned our success entirely with the client's, which is why a fixed subscription made obvious sense from day one.
2. Between you, there are four decades of experience spanning Singapore, the Middle East, FinTech and Big Four consulting. Does all of that actually make it into the product, or is it just good copy for the website?
It's genuinely baked in. Adam spent years building hiring infrastructure across Asia at scale, including running a 140-person team at Indeed. My side is understanding how scaling businesses actually feel the pain of talent gaps, because I've been the person sitting inside those businesses trying to solve it without the right tools. You can't really fake that institutional knowledge when a client is hiring across six countries simultaneously.
3. Unlimited hiring for a flat monthly fee sounds like the kind of promise that comes with a very long list of small print. Where's the catch?
There isn't one, which is what surprises people most. No placement fees, no lock-in. If we're not delivering, clients can walk. That keeps us honest in a way that the old agency model never had to be. The economics work because we run a purpose-built infrastructure rather than billing hours or marking up salaries.
4. Your client list includes Cloudflare, Kaspersky and Aon. How do you convince enterprises of that scale that a subscription hiring team can match what they're used to?
Honestly, the conversation changes the moment they see the candidate database and the on-the-ground presence in the markets they're actually hiring in. We're not outsourcing to a generalist. We have recruiters physically located in key markets, which matters enormously when you're trying to hire in Singapore or Riyadh or Warsaw and you need someone who understands those talent pools properly.
5. What does the next five years look like for Cygnify?
We think the subscription model will become the default for scaling businesses, the same way SaaS replaced on-premise software. The companies that are still paying placement fees in five years will look back at it the way people look back at paying per email. We want to be the business that made that shift feel obvious.
