The Mama Perspective founder on why real motherhood beats perfect motherhood every single time.
By S/ME
Natasha Guy started The Mama Perspective just over three years ago, not to build a brand but to tell the truth. Here, she talks about the strength she found in chaos, the myths she wants dismantled and what she actually wants for the future.

1. Take us back to the beginning. What made you start The Mama Perspective?
It began almost two years after my eldest, Freddy, was born. Becoming a mum for the first time completely changed my perspective on life, and I wanted a space where I could share the honest, relatable and sometimes chaotic reality of it all. Freddy was both the beginning of my journey and the inspiration behind creating somewhere to tell it properly.

2. There is no shortage of motherhood content online. Why is yours different?
I'm not writing about motherhood from the outside looking in. I'm living it, and I bring my own lived experience, honesty and openness to conversations around maternal wellbeing, identity, work and family life. I don't aim to portray perfect motherhood. I want to share the real version, so other mums can feel seen, understood and less alone.
3. What's the biggest myth about motherhood you'd love to put to rest?
That 'it takes a village' and 'it gets easier with two' are always true. The reality is that motherhood can feel incredibly lonely, and sometimes the village you imagined simply isn't there. More than anything, I want to change the idea that needing or wanting support makes you any less of a mum. Asking for help doesn't mean you're failing. Sometimes it's one of the strongest things you can do, for yourself and your family.
4. What has running this taught you about yourself that you didn't expect?
That you can't do everything, and you don't have to. As mums, it's so easy to put pressure on ourselves to get everything right, but motherhood has taught me that slowing down and accepting that some days are simply about getting through is more than enough. I'm always working on letting go of perfection, and I've learnt to trust that I'm doing the best I can for my family.
5. Where do you want The Mama Perspective to be in three years, and who is it really for?
I want it to grow alongside my children and my own journey through motherhood. As our lives change, so will the conversations and stories I share, from the early years to everything that comes next. My reader is a mum who wants honest, relatable content and a community where she knows she isn't alone. Whether she's a new mum, juggling work and family, or simply looking for reassurance without the pressure of perfection, there's something there for her.
